This visa allows you to stay in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. And AXA, how can it help me with obtaining a Schengen visa?

As you may have seen in the previous section, having a travel medical insurance policy is a mandatory requirement for obtaining a Schengen visa, and this is exactly where AXA comes in. AXA's Schengen visa travel insurance not only meets all the requirements set by European authorities but also:

  • The insurance cost will be refunded if your visa application is rejected.
  • It offers a very competitive price (from €22 per week).
  • It suits both your travel style and your budget. There are three insurance options for the Schengen visa:
    • Low Cost: As the name suggests, this is the cheapest option of the three (from €22 per week). It has a maximum coverage of €30,000 and covers all Schengen area countries as well as European microstates (Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican).
    • Europe Travel: The maximum coverage of this insurance increases significantly. It is €100,000. The covered geographical area is also broader. It covers the Schengen area, the European microstates (Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican), all European Union member countries (including EU countries not part of the Schengen area, namely: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, and Romania), and the United Kingdom.
    • MultiTrip: This is an annual contract ideal for people with a multiple-entry Schengen visa. If you plan to enter the Schengen area multiple times a year. The maximum coverage is €100,000 and it covers the Schengen area, European microstates (Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican), all European Union member countries (including EU countries not part of the Schengen area, namely: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, and Romania), and the United Kingdom.

What if I want to stay in Spain for more than 90 days?

If your stay exceeds 90 days (for academic, family reunification, or work reasons…), you must apply for a national visa with the authorities of the relevant country.

You can apply for an extension of your stay by submitting form EX-00.

How much does a Schengen visa cost?

The visa to Spain from Ecuador costs €80 for persons over 12 years old and €40 for children between 6 and 11 years old. Children under 5 years old do not pay.

“Digital Nomad” Visa

From AXA, we are very excited to share a fantastic piece of news (especially if you are Ecuadorian). Well, in the first quarter of 2023, the Spanish government approved a law related to its visa policy. This is the “Digital Nomad” visa. As you may already know, or even have experienced firsthand, the COVID-19 pandemic has boosted remote working around the world, and people who move or even settle in other countries while keeping their original job are now referred to as “Digital Nomads,” and Spain wants to attract this type of worker.

Therefore, regardless of your nationality (without having to refer to the old lists of countries that have an agreement with Schengen or not) you can apply for this visa. However, there are certain criteria that you must meet to obtain it:

  • Have a degree or postgraduate degree from a recognized university or at least 3 years of professional experience.
  • Show evidence of a real and ongoing activity from the company you work for.
  • The company you work for cannot be a Spanish company. If you receive income from a Spanish company, these cannot account for more than 20% of your annual income.
  • A document specifying that the person is allowed to work remotely.
  • Proof that the employment or professional relationship between the applicant and employer has existed for at least three months.

If you want to know more about this new visa, you can consult the digital nomad portal.
