If the 29 member countries of the Schengen Area allow their nationals to move freely within the borders of this zone, this is not the case for citizens from non-member countries.
Except for certain nations that have established a visa exemption agreement for their nationals (Canada, Japan, Mexico, etc.), all travelers from countries outside the Schengen Area must be able to present their visa upon entry into any of the member countries.
This residence permit must be obtained before departure, through a visa application form addressed to the authorities responsible for issuing it.

- A recent passport-sized photo, strictly in color, with a white or light grey background.
- A photocopy of your passport (with validity extending beyond the travel dates in question).
- A letter detailing the purpose of your trip (tourism, family, etc.).
- A round-trip flight reservation.
- Accommodation documents (proof of accommodation from family, hotel reservation, etc.).
- Financial documents: documents (last 3 pay slips, original bank statement, etc.) proving your financial stability and ability to support yourself during your stay.
- Travel insurance certificate: this coverage is mandatory to ensure the traveler's safety.
All original documents are required. For documents written solely in Arabic, a translation may be required in some cases. During your appointment to finalize the application, be sure to bring all required documents.
Be sure to clearly state the purpose of your trip. Entries into the Schengen Area for work or study purposes require a separate application.
Note: The visa application must be made at least 90 days before the trip. If this deadline is not respected, your visa may be granted for a later date than planned for your departure. Be sure to respect this timeline.

All Moroccan nationals must submit a visa application. If you are traveling with family, be sure to indicate whether children will be accompanying you, as they also need a visa in their name.
- Adult: 80 €.
- Child aged 12 to 18: 80 €.
- Child aged 6 to 11: 40 €.
- Child under 6: free.
The free visa for children under 6 does not mean they are exempt. They must also have a visa in their name.
ETIAS will handle border controls starting in 2021
For the entire Schengen Area, starting in 2021, the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) will be responsible for issuing and controlling residence permits allowing foreign nationals to travel in Europe. Like the Schengen visa, this authorization to move within the Schengen Area will be valid for a short stay of up to 90 days.
Note: Starting in 2021, even citizens from countries that have signed visa exemption agreements will need to apply for entry into the Schengen Area.
